Spectrum Check/Debit Card
The Spectrum Check Card (also known as a Debit card) looks like a credit card but works
like a check. With it, you can shop practically anywhere in the world, safely and securely. Although
the check card transaction is handled securely, just like a charge or cash
withdrawal with a regular VISA® credit card (the merchant will authorize
your purchase electronically and you, the customer, will sign a sales slip)
funds are automatically deducted from your checking account.
If you wish to have a Spectrum Check Card, but currently have a checking account at another financial institution, you may switch your checking account to Spectrum by following the instructions on this secure Checking Account 'Switch Kit'.
You may use your Spectrum Check Card as you would an ATM card - for purchases, cash withdrawals and deposits. (See the
ATM webpage for links to no-surcharge and deposit-taking machines.)
The Spectrum Check Card is a universally accepted card which allows you:
- To access your Spectrum share savings and/or checking
account to get cash at ATMs with the STAR®, PLUS®, EXCHANGE® or VISA®
symbols.
- To make point-of-sale purchases (which automatically debit
your checking account only) at merchants displaying the STAR®, INTERLINK®
or VISA® symbols.
- To make deposits at ATMs which are part of the Exchange
Deposit Sharing Network (CA only) as well as Spectrum FCU ATMs at our branch locations (NOTE: Cash dispensing
machines will not take deposits.)
(NOTE: If you have a current Spectrum ATM Card, your Spectrum FCU Check Card will replace it within 30 days of Check Card activation.)
